Y-PEER at the Belgrade Beer Fest

Y-PEER – Youth Peer Education Network was founded by the Interagency group IAG of the United Nations, namely UNICEF – the United Nations Children's Fund, UNFPA – the United Nations Populations Fund and WHO – the World Health organization. Y-PEER Network consists of thousands of young people in 39 countries, oriented toward education of their peers. The Serbian National Network is experiencing an increasingly dynamic growth which is making it one of the fastest developing networks. It currently consists of 32 non-governmental organizations and can boast the support of state and public institutions, as well as many international agencies.

Staying loyal to our traditional programme, we have once again prepared a campaign dedicated to the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases which will be organized at the Belgrade Beer Fest for the third year in a row. This year however we are also preparing a stand designed for providing information about basic health issues, as well as distribution of promotional and educational material. By visiting our stand, the young will be able to participate in our entertainment programme and learn by playing different educational games. All youth activities during the festival will be a part of the joint campaign of Y-PEER and MTV International called Save a Life.

1. Condom Police

This is the third iteration of the Condom Police at the Belgrade Beer Fest. The interest for this event has always been very strong. Our volunteers, dressed in condom police uniforms, will take upon themselves to halt the passing visitors and check them for condoms. Possession of condoms will be awarded by an "Equipped" sticker, while failing to issue the condom will result in an "Unequipped" sticker and a "reroute" to the Y-PEER stand in order to obtain condoms and promo material.

2. A Youth Story

The primary goal of A Youth Story is to make the young directly involved in the fight for their right to know. The visitors that get their photograph taken at the stand will be able to pick up their photographs the following evening. The offer is valid for the first four days of the festival. After the visitor obtains their picture from the board, they have to fill the empty space by posting a message concerning youth health. The goal of this action is enabling direct involvement of the young in the fight for awareness. We are also using this opportunity to give our young visitors a token of the festival and the Y-PEER network, as well as a warning to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

3. Condom Quiz

Condom Quiz is a contest in demonstrating the proper way to put on a condom. The contestants will first choose a requisite (banana, cucumber, or gourd), after which they'll try and put the condom on it. Their skills will be evaluated by the educators, who will also point out their mistakes and make suggestions how to improve their technique. The best contestants will be adequately awarded.

4. Distribution of promo material

During the five days of the festival, promo health material will be distributed to the visitors. Promotional material includes brochures, leaflets, posters, T-shirts, mousepads, room/car refresheners, bracelets, balloons, and many other things designed by a team of young people.
